Group Therapy
Healing happens faster when you realize you are not doing it alone.
There is real power in not going it alone
Sometimes the most healing thing is realizing other people understand exactly what you are going through. Led by a trained clinician, group therapy is one of the most effective ways to build skills, feel less isolated, and hear perspectives you cannot get on your own.
At North Jersey Health & Wellness, our groups are small, confidential, and led by professionals, and they work beautifully alongside individual care or on their own.
Who group therapy helps
Group therapy is a good fit for many people. It may help if you:
- Feel alone in what you are dealing with
- Are managing anxiety, depression, or stress
- Are working through substance use or recovery
- Want to build practical coping skills
- Are navigating grief or a major life change
- Want support that complements individual therapy
Group therapy is not a replacement for one-on-one care when that is needed, it is a powerful addition, and we help you find the right mix.
Our groups
We offer clinician-led groups built around real needs, including:
- DBT skills groups for adults
- DBT skills groups for adolescents
- Groups supporting substance use and recovery
- Support for anxiety, depression, and stress
- Groups that pair with individual therapy and medication management
How group therapy works at North Jersey Health & Wellness
We make groups safe, structured, and genuinely useful:
- A brief intake to match you to the right group
- Small, confidential groups led by a trained clinician
- A focus on real skills you can use right away
- Coordination with your individual therapy or medication when you have it
- A supportive, judgment-free space to show up as you are
Your group work and any individual care are coordinated by the same team, so everything supports the same goals.
What getting started looks like
- Book your first visit. One call or a few clicks, and we will get you on the schedule.
- Talk it through with a provider. An honest, careful evaluation, at your pace.
- Match to the right care. We shape a plan to what you actually need, then fine-tune it.
- Stay supported the whole way. Regular check-ins and adjustments until you feel like yourself.

Group therapy: common questions
What is group therapy?
Group therapy is therapy led by a trained clinician with a small group of people working through similar challenges. You build skills, share perspectives, and realize you are not alone, which is a powerful part of healing.
Is group therapy as effective as individual therapy?
For many issues, yes, and sometimes more so. Group therapy offers support and shared experience that one-on-one work cannot, and it pairs well with individual therapy. The right mix depends on your needs.
Is what I say in group therapy confidential?
Yes. Confidentiality is a core ground rule of every group, agreed to by all members and upheld by the clinician who leads it, so the group stays a safe place to be honest.
What actually happens in a group therapy session?
A trained clinician guides the group through a focus for that session, whether it is a specific skill, like the DBT skills groups, or shared support. You share as much as you are comfortable with, and you learn from others doing the same work.
Who is group therapy for?
Group therapy helps people managing anxiety, depression, stress, grief, or substance use, and anyone who feels isolated in what they are facing. We offer groups for adults and adolescents and will help you find the right fit.
Does insurance cover group therapy?
Most major insurance plans cover group therapy. North Jersey Health & Wellness accepts most major plans. If you are unsure about your coverage, call (201) 588-3491 and we will help you check.
You do not have to do this alone
