Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

Break free of challenging thought patterns.

It is estimated that 1 in 100 adults in the United States have obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). OCD is characterized by obsessions and compulsions, which can make it difficult or almost impossible to accomplish every day activities.

Obsessions are thoughts or images that cause anxiety or distress, while compulsions are behaviors aimed at reducing the associated anxiety or distress. Compulsions may include excessive cleaning, checking things repeatedly, hoarding items of little value, or counting/touching things over and over again.

Sometimes, individuals with OCD might also experience a constant fear that something bad will happen if they don’t perform a certain action over and over again.

While breaking away from such thought patterns can be challenging, North Jersey Health & Wellness offers Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and medication options to support those struggling with OCD behaviors.
